Costilla County Sheriff’s Office Needs the Public’s Help Finding Information on Horse Killings

COSTILLA COUNTY, Colo. – The Costilla County Sherriff’s Office is asking the public for help in finding those responsible for shooting four horses along County Road J.2 in San Francisco, Colo. Any information on the crime can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).

On March 20, 2013, four horses were found shot along County Road J.2 in San Francisco, Colo. Three horses died from gunshot wounds and one horse survived. The horses belonged to a resident of San Francisco. The sheriff’s office and the Colorado Humane Society are investigating the case.

"In addition to the evidence we have collected, we need help from the public in finding information about who might have shot these horses," said Costilla County Sheriff Amos Medina. "We hope the public will call us or Crime Stoppers to report new details. There’s a good chance that someone involved might be talking about it and a tip leading to a summons might get a $2,000 reward."

Information about the horses can be reported to the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office at (719) 672-3302, the Colorado Humane Society at (800) 249-5121 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867).

Crime Stoppers will offer a reward of up to $2,000 for any information leading to an arrest or citation on this crime, and the person can remain anonymous. Tips can be called into 720-913-STOP (7867), or texted to: 274637 (CRIMES). Anonymous tips also can be reported online.
