COSTILLA COUNTY, Colo. (Sept. 23, 2014) – The Costilla County Sheriff’s Office announced the end of a tough case of animal cruelty in a rural part of the county. Rhonda Deffley, the owner of dozens of shepherd-type dogs, was cited in the past and given the opportunity to provide better care and shelter for her dogs. Law enforcement officers revisited Ms. Deffley, but unfortunately, the situation for Ms. Deffley’s dogs did not improve and the dogs had to be removed. A Costilla County judge has sentenced Ms. Deffley to receive mandatory mental health treatment to help her progress successfully in the future. Read the full story.
